728 drones and 13 rockets: Kyiv reports the hardest Russian attacks since the beginning of the war

According to Kiev, Russia has exceeded the heaviest air raids since the beginning of the war. The Russian army attacked the west of the country with 728 drones and 13 rockets, the Ukrainian Air Force announced on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) said “grateful” for the latest signals from US President Donald Trump, who indicated a possible further US support for Ukrainian air defense.

In Kyiv the alarm sirens howled because of the air raids. Reporters of the AFP news agency heard loud explosions in the Ukrainian capital. According to the Air Force, 711 drones and at least seven rockets were intercepted. Most drones, however, were dummies, said a Ukrainian army representative. The previously heaviest air raids on Ukraine had been reported with around 550 drones at the beginning of the month.

The Ukrainian Air Force said that new Ukrainian drones had played an important role in the defense of the bullets.

According to the mayor, a fire broke out in a company in the city of Luzk in the northwest of Ukraine as a result of a Russian attack. The capital of the Wolyn region is only around 90 kilometers from the border with Poland.

The Russian Ministry of Defense announced that the army had “hit” infrastructure of the Air Force. The Russian air defense intercepted 86 Ukrainian drones on Wednesday night, the ministry added.

Meanwhile, Russia announced the reopening of an airport, which was closed since the beginning of the war. From July 18th, machines from Moscow would land again at the airport in the Black Sea City of Gelendschik near Ukraine, explained the Rosawijatsja Air Supervisory Authority.

The Ministry of Defense in Moscow reported to take another town on Wednesday. The hamlet Tolstoy in the eastern Ukrainian region of Donetsk was conquered by the army.

According to the Ukrainian public prosecutor’s office, eight civilians were killed in the region, which had announced the annexation of which had announced the annexation of the Russian President Vladimir Putin in September 2022. In official pictures, the charred remains of two people who had been hit by a Russian drone in their car according to the authorities.

According to the authorities, a one -year -old boy was killed in the attacks in the South Ukrainian region of Cherson.

The new Russian wave of attack was followed by the announcement by US President Trump that the United States wanted to deliver additional weapons of Ukraine. The Ukrainian Presidential Office Andrij Jermak wrote in online networks that it was “significant” that Russia would do the attacks just after the US president’s announcement.

Trump had approached Moscow and Kiev under pressure after his re -entry into the White House in January. After a temporary stop of important arms deliveries to Ukraine, the US President announced on Monday that he would provide Ukraine more weapons to defend it again.

In addition, Trump once again commented “dissatisfied” about Putin’s action. He accused Putin of telling “a lot of crap” – and left open again whether he could agree to further US sanctions against Russia.

The Kremlin was unimpressed by the statements. “We are pretty relaxed there,” said Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskow in Moscow on Wednesday. Trump is known for his “harsh rhetorical style”. Russia wants to continue dialogue with Washington.

Meanwhile, Chancellor Merz welcomed the recent statements from Washington. He was “grateful” about the “signals” to rethink the “air defense of Ukraine again,” said Merz after a meeting with NATO general secretary Mark Rutte in Berlin.

In a question time in the Bundestag, Merz had previously said that he wanted to talk to the US government about “appointments” to support Ukraine with further air defense systems. The help for Kyiv “will not fail because of financial possibilities or personnel support”. Currently there is currently only a lack of armaments.

The Ukrainian President Wolodymyr Selenskyj accused Moscow in online service X in the face of the wave of attack that he would again want to destroy all efforts for a ceasefire. This shows how necessary sanctions are particularly against the Russian oil business. “Anyone who wants peace has to act,” emphasized Selenskyj. The pressure on Russia must be increased to force Moscow to “think about the end of the war and not about new attacks”.

Selenskyj traveled to Rome on Wednesday, where this year’s Ukraine reuptign summit will take place from Thursday. At first Pope Leo XIV received him in his summer residence Castel Gandolfo. The Pope affirmed his willingness there to organize peace talks in the Vatican. The Holy Stuhl wrote about a “warm conversation”, Selenskyj said the Pope claimed to Ukraine.
